I'm a 'lympics widower this evening. I can't stand the ringed corporation. So I am turning my hand to scrubbing up an interview by Sue Wilcox of Steve Grand (circa 1998). I'd really like to add Steve to the biota.org interview list. So the polish up of Sue's interview may be a backdrop to an updated biota.org interview with Steve. I got out two interviews this evening which will both hopefully yield good responses in good time. In addition to the interviews, I have been thinking about writing articles for biota.org. The same questions come back again and again from developers; http://mail.nobleape.com/pipermail/developer_nobleape.com/2006-February/000249.html I don't recommend my open source document; http://www.nobleape.com/docs/open_source_educate.html The kick in the guts section isn't really too applicable. I'm hoping to return to two releases a month. Adding features in such a tight turn around time frame. I suspect the latest new features may be a full update to the Java version. I've entered a personal/professional renaissance with Java recently. Good night. Wednesday, 12:05 am, 22 February 2006 I have been doing some thinking about communication and the reflective mind. Creating the decade of Noble Ape page, I contacted a number of people and the response was pretty poor. I was following a chain of thought this evening relating to a conversation I had with Mridul P; http://mail.nobleape.com/pipermail/moonmonkey_nobleape.com/2006-February/000003.html It's funny, but this discussion linked back to the Mushroom Boy development in 1998. I had completely forgotten about the Mushroom Boy work but it was a powerful time in my life. Living in the shed and thinking very dynamically about the kind of narratives I wanted to pursue through software. It seems full-circle to put these ideas out onto the Moon Monkey list. My sense is that only about thirty percent of all I write is ever read. Then about ten percent of that is digested. A further five percent of that is emailed to me on and from that 0.3 x 0.1 x 0.05, if I am luck someone will write about it online. To-date, the biota.org interviews have been the best reference to get people back to this site. A new one online tonight, this time with Todd Furmanski. What does all this text do? Does it provide any insight? The Mushroom Boy work is a reminder that the text I produce now isn't an extreme, its the amount I have always produced. Good night. Saturday, 11:20 pm, 18 February 2006 Dynamic Strings Throughout I have been going through the Noble Ape code for the DLL version which will be used both for AIR and DigitalSpace. In fact, the Moon Monkeys project is turning very quickly into the DLL project. With the view that the different DLLs for the different components of the Simulation can be replaced for different effects. It all returns to dynamic strings. Under that is memory management. I'm avoiding the memory management issues currently. I have written the dynamic string code, and it appears it will be no additional code when I have removed all the duplicate code throughout the Simulation. It's rather a big project relative to the DLL work, but it needs to be done. I foresee some solid coding sometime in the near future to implement the dynamic strings in one go. I don't want to add dynamic strings to produce a greater volume of text and an additional file for no productive benefit. I'm looking for a URL link to the license as opposed to copying the text of the license per source file. Memories Of Smiling I heard an occasional correspondent and former colleague passed away during the week. If one can do anything in life, impacting people's lives in a positive way is all that you can ask for. Graham certainly did that in my life. I remember a number of conversations about medieval weapons and strategy. The mythos of dragons from dinosaur bones, was a conversation I remember in particular. St George pointing out; ''Here's one I slayed a little earlier.'' It's impossible to think about Graham without smiling. We can all only hope to achieve this through life in memorial. Good night. Tuesday, 02:10 pm, 14 February 2006 Still feeling a little washed out from the trip back from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. From the string of announcements relating to my meeting with Bruce and Todd; http://www.nobleape.com/docs/moon_monkeys.html (with photo) http://mail.nobleape.com/pipermail/biota-at-home_nobleape.com/2006-February/000038.html Bruce also gave me a copy of his book. A real blast from the past... no Noble Apes though... Some more good news, I received a nice long email from Chris Bryant, of Alienstar fame. He's thinking about creating a new set of rules some cheap, some free. Following my experiences with the Noble Ape Simulation open source, I replied that I was the wrong person to muse with on this particular topic. Good afternoon. Monday, 11:10 pm, 13 February 2006
