Wednesday, 09:18 pm, 22 September 2004 I'm looking forward to Games Day. Games Day has put itself between the present and a rather hectic week that ends with my birthday. October always seems to be an insane month. When I was a student, my birthday would always fall on the day before major assignments were due or the day of exams. One of the best birthdays I had was when I turned 23. I woke up in Berlin and had my birthday tea of sushi in Vienna. With people, when I turned 18, I had a large meal with a large group of friends. Married life has given me similar birthdays all involving raw fish. In fact the raw fish for my birthday seems to be the theme. Part of my looking forward to Games Day are previews from Fred Reed of his work. Rather than entering the Golden Demons, each year Fred and his friends produce a table with a narrative attached. I'm not sure if it is a game or a static display. But it is part of his Games Day ritual. Good night. Tuesday, 07:32 pm, 21 September 2004 The beauty of the images taken walking to work in the rain was the low light levels created the water-colours effect. As they go down the page, the chronology follows. Artists Make A Project About two years ago I briefly hired a publicist for Noble Ape. It was a long time coming. I sent out a number of introduction letters all at the same time and I got one response. This seems to be the mechanism for a small project like Noble Ape. Pepsi or Ford goes looking for a PR person, there is no problem. But not Noble Ape. Looking through the Games Workshop books and the similar fantasy books across the pond, art makes the books. Lots of text and choice artwork at various intervals. I did a precursory search this morning for an artist for Noble Ape. My money is good. I'm willing to pay for artwork. But there isn't a single approach. Clearly, like the publicist, I need to send out a lot of letters to get an artist for commission work on Noble Ape. Corporations Give Money to Corporations... I am still on the Sourceforge Mailout. This month's featured an article on the founder of eBay, through his foundation, donating USD400,000 to Sourceforge, a subsidiary of the Nasdaq listed company. It always makes me feel warm and fuzzy when corporations give money to other corporations. Not a penny to open source developers, but more money for the corporation. Warm and fuzzy. Concluding Thought When I was about 12, I went to stay with my father's parents. My grandfather sat me down and we watched Rambo together. We watched Rambo, Wheel of Fortune and the news. I never had a chance to ask him about the Second World War. But he thought Rambo was an important film to see. Good night. If only da Vinci had done a side view too. I suspect men were more lithe back then. ![]() Good night! [ Previous Log ]
