![]() My favourite Beatles line in John Lennon's own hand thanks to BBC News this morning. Very Noblemake... One of the coolest tools I developed for Noble Ape was Noblemake. It's now completely neglected because all the platforms build single products and where absolutely necessary, make files. But there are some nice features. For a start, it resolves the directory information for Mac (Classic and OS X), Windows and Linux. If you are a build-junky, this kind of stuff matters. To compile a single, small source file that will do all you need on any major platform... if you're a build-junky. Within Noblemake, there are a lot of smarts I would like to strip out and add to ApeScript for example. The combination of file trolling and ApeScript would be really cool and also enable a return to actively working on the ApeScript modularisation project discussed in last month's mailout. Odd Cast Following a long discussion with John Draper and his friend Trevor (aka DualFlipFlop at Jinx) about how to record John talking about the actual history of computer technology (according to the Crunchman), I have been dabbling with podCasting issues on the Noble Ape Simulation and ALife. I tried a couple of test records yesterday and the issues of background/recording noise are huge. I had been mildly skeptical of Trevor's analysis that good recording equipment was needed. But when the noise becomes more important than what is being said... In my own equipment bank I have a little memory stick recorder that produces heaps of semi-regular noise. I have tried removing this noise with Audacity but it produces even worse audio effects. So the musing question is... should I not podCast until I can get the better quality equipment or are words more important than background noise? Good morning.
