Thursday, 10:25 pm, 29 April 2004 I go on at the end of every month about the Noble Ape Mailout. This month I spied something cool as I was doing the HTML upload; 2002 2003 2004 April wasn't the first month, but it is obviously at the top of the upload directory. In other news, I got an email from Prof Groove saying the vocal track I received was a test track to set the final beat to. More work subsampling to go. I have a good beat optimisation script, I am thinking of automating more over the weekend. Good night. Wednesday, 10:36 pm, 28 April 2004 Pure Butta After months of planning Montreal's finest, Butta Beats, stepped up to the mic and laid down a track in Spanish for (re)mixing by yours truly yesterday. For those just joining this log, I am based in Cheshire in the UK. The internet is making this collaboration possible. That and Professor Groove of WeFunk who organised the recording session and stepped in to offer his home studio when the studio time fell through. A picture is worth... Mailout nearly ready. More from me on that front in the next couple of days. Good night! Saturday, 11:15 am, 24 April 2004 After months of complaining about my email client on my laptop, I have switched to SweetMail. I haven't used it for a week yet. But I suspect it will have everything I need. Some good news for the week has be the first integrated development of Noble Warfare with a number of combatants. 5,000 is the current top-end for the internals with display. I want to push it to about 20,000 in real-time. The current implementation I am calling Noble Warfare Skirmish which may become the tag of the initial beta. The initial demonstration is through GPI which means I am developing it both on my laptop (Powerbook 1400 166Mhz) and my wife's Windows machine (circa this year). My wife's Windows machine is quickly becoming the house's only internet connection. Although the connection is slightly slower than the laptop, the dialup is much easier with the extra Mhz on the processor. I'm hoping to document the Noble Warfare development this weekend. The challenge of good development time is documenting following the development period. Good development comes in bursts. Unpredictable at best. Good morning. Monday, 11:01 pm, 19 April 2004 For some reason, I couldn't put the commissar image online last night. After about thirty minutes of trying I gave up. Went to bed. Tonight, I thought I would try again and it went up first time. There are about half a dozen sites I have been meaning to put onto Barbalet's Log. Here are the first few... Cutting Garlic with Razors I am a big fan of Goodfellas. Mainly for the food. But also for the narrative. I'm not too partial to the violence, but I think it is there for a reason. My wife got a mis-Amazoned package a week or so ago - the Wiseguy Cookbook. Independent of that, I heard a Scarface sample on WeFunk and thought to myself, I haven't seen Scarfare, but Goodfellas - there's a movie. I did an anonymous internet search and turned up; http://www.goodfellahenry.com/ Which turned out to be the same fellow who wrote the Wiseguy Cookbook. Collective unconscious? So basically the narrator of Goodfellas surfaces and begins doing interviews and writing cookbooks. End of story. There is a sad audio link to Henry appearing on radio, talking about his alcoholism et al. Sad, but interesting to put a face to the film. Nine Maj' - It's a Montreal Thang I purchased the Nine Majesty Mix Tape Volume One recently. They are regulars on WeFunk although they didn't drop in for either funding drive shows. In any case, they have a suite of sites; http://www.euphrates.ca/ Should be a start. Deep Profiling This survey confirmed I was bi-Pooh-lar; ![]() Take the 100 Acre Personality Quiz! I would have thought I was more Rabbit or Owl. But it is a linear scale and I was just in the positive off-centre from all the questions answered. I suspect it is spelt Aker too. But that could be the Owl or Rabbit trying to get out. Orcs of the World Finally, not the free Microsoft Command Line compiler. I will save that for another log entry. The final link for the evening. I present some of the best Orcs of the World reviews ever! Top marks! http://wk.frothersunite.com/sc/orcs/orcs1/orcs1.htm Good night. [ Previous Log ]
